Comprehensive Evaluations to Better Understand Your Strengths and Needs
The GW Center Clinic provides comprehensive psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Evaluations are designed to better understand an individual's cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and personality functioning and can help clarify diagnoses, guide treatment planning, and inform recommendations for school, work, or daily life.
Our assessments are offered at a reduced cost through a sliding-fee scale, making high-quality psychological evaluation more accessible to the Washington, D.C., community.
- What Can a Psychological Assessment Help With?
Psychological evaluations may be useful for individuals who are seeking diagnostic clarification or looking to better understand their strengths and challenges.
Common referral concerns include:
- Attention and concentration difficulties
- Learning or academic concerns
- Anxiety and depression
- Personality and emotional functioning
- Diagnostic clarification
- Behavioral or social concerns
- Treatment planning
- Self-understanding and personal growth
- Neuropsychological Assessment
The Center Clinic may offer neuropsychological assessments to evaluate cognitive functions such as attention, memory, executive functioning, language, processing speed, and other areas of brain-based functioning.
Please note: Neuropsychological evaluations require specialized training and are offered based on clinician expertise and availability.
- Assessment Services We Do Not Provide
The Center Clinic provides psychological assessments to support diagnosis, treatment planning, and a better understanding of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. However, there are some evaluation services that we do not offer.
Please note: We do not provide assessments for:
- Legal or forensic matters, including court proceedings, custody evaluations, divorce or separation proceedings, or litigation.
- Asylum or immigration-related evaluations.
- Applications for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
- Determinations of fitness or safety to return to work or school.
- Requests for testing accommodations or formal academic supports, including accommodations for standardized exams (e.g., SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT) or for college, graduate school, professional licensing examinations, or workplace accommodations.
If your evaluation needs fall outside the scope of our services, we are happy to discuss appropriate referral options when available.
- What to Expect
Assessments are tailored to each individual's referral question and typically include a combination of clinical interviews, standardized testing, behavioral observations, and review of relevant records. Depending on the evaluation, testing may take approximately 4–8 hours and is typically completed over 1-3 appointments.
Following the evaluation, clients receive feedback about the results along with recommendations that can inform treatment, educational planning, or other next steps.
